I’m a freelance science writer covering how policy, culture, and international relations affect researchers (and vice versa).
I’m serving as the president of the European Union of Science Journalists’ Associations, and am a member of the Irish Science & Technology Journalists’ Association.
I also work part-time for the European Science Communication Institute, a not-for-profit based in Germany.
My previous work has been featured in Euronews, Ars Technica, OpenMind, ScienceBusiness, SciDev.net, and others.
I have also profiled and interviewed leading researchers & policymakers for events such as the Transatlantic Big Science Conference and the European Inventor Award.
I’m interested in writing about how culture and politics are introducing new roles for modern science; such as science aiding foreign relations, researchers taking fewer flights, or how drag performers are explaining physics to their audiences.
I first got a BSc in Biotechnology from Dublin City University, and then an MSc in Science Communication where I studied science diplomacy for my thesis. I interned at the Irish Times and Horizon Magazine before working at the European Commission’s trade department from 2016 to 2019.
